Hungarian expatriates took this dog to other countries during World war II. And this allowed the Hungarian Vizsla to escape from extinction. Originally bred for pointing and retrieving it is now a good family companion. It is obedient, dependable and healthy. There is a wire haired and short-haired variety. It is still used as  gun dog. It weighs 22-30 kgs and is 57-64 cms in height.
