|This is the tallest breed in the world. The Romans brought this majestic
dog to Ireland. In the latter half of the 19th century, the breed was recreated by the
efforts of Capt. G.A. Graham, a British Army officer who crossed it with the ancient
Wolfhounds. Today's Irish Wolfhound is an excellent companion and a loyal, effective guard
dog. Its enormous size means that it needs a lot of space and food and is therefore
ideally suited for large farms and country life. It maybe in a variety of colours. They
weigh between 40-55 kgs and are about 75-90 cms tall at the withers.
