2007 German Sieger Show in Picture and Words
It
is indeed the dream of every GSD lover to be present at the annual breed
show in Germany, better known as the Sieger Show. This year too, I had
the pleasure to be part of the Mecca of German Shepherds.
The Eintracht stadium in Braunschweig, near
Hannover
(North of Germany), was the venue that witnessed all the action from
August 31 to
September 2, 2007.
Heres a little visual brief. The SV tent was set up right outside the
entrance to the main stadium. The seating arrangement in the main
stadium was excellent. The rings for the youth (12-18 months), male,
female (18-24 months), young male, female and for the open class male
(individuals) were big and well arranged, at barely five minutes away
from main stadium. There was ample space for spectators as well as
double handlers.
The numerous counters put up by different dog food and accessories
companies, the S.V shop selling s.v memorabilia, Reivision stall selling
videos of Sieger shows and training videos, Foto Urma counter busy as
usual, added all the color and buzz to the venue. Like every year, many
known faces frequented the Foto Urma stall by Peter, thanks to his
friendly demeanour and polite offer of a short drink. The food and drink
stalls offered German Pills beer, hamburger, grilled sausages and much
more.
The weather complimented the fervor of the show. Except for some rain on
Friday, the weather was perfect.
I missed the smile of Jo-Vana, my friend from Gradlyn Kennels.
May his soul rest in peace. It was heartening to see Kay, Jo-Vanas
partner taking care of his clients and doing well.
Many reputed breeders from all parts of the world were present to
showcase their breeding. The judges were as below:-
Open class male Mr. Reinhardt Meyer
Open class female Mr. Bernhard Norda
Young class male Mr. Henning Setzer
Young class female Mr. Joachim Stiegler
Youth class male Mr. Hans Peter Reiker
Youth class female Mr. Peter Arth

Before the opening of the show, a tribute was paid to the former
President Late Herr. Peter Messler.
This year, the Open class male was judged by Mr. Reinhardt Meyer of the
famous Bergmanshof Kennel, a man with tremendous experience and vision.
This years highlight was the courage test (bite work). It seemed to be
very strict and working type. My personal view is that helper no. 2 was
in some cases harsh and tough. The important males who failed this test
were - Zamp son Zidan v. Grabfeldgau, Teejay Wihendorf, Balko v.
Gleisenauer Schloss, Nick v. Altportel, Joker v. Alcudia, Xitus v.
Murrtal,
Tex Del Murnighello, Igel v. d. Kraueschneise, Cello v. Haus yu. Many
females too like Viola v. Hannes, Visa v. Larchenhain, Tiana v.
Fichtenschlag, Ottia v. Huhnegrab, Lloga Feetback, Romina v. d.
Pistetrophe, Ulli v. Aurelius, Daggi v. Frankengold failed the test.
Among the open males, Bazi Urbecke impressed me with his super bite
work. Also, Dux de Cuatro Flores and Dgenges Khan v. Santes Home were
good. Dux de Cuatro Flores children showed good character in the
courage test. A lot of children from Karats Yorker did not show enough
courage.
The 12 to 18 months class male was judged by Mr. Heinz Peter Reiker of
Bad-Boll Kennel. In this class, the dogs were of correct size and the
SG1 Panjo v. Kirschental and SG2 Furbo degli achei were the winners. The
SG2 Furbo especially impressed me with his character and willingness
combined with anatomical excellence. I only hope he does not go deeper
in the brisket.
I
had the opportunity to photograph Panjo inside the ring. He is typical
father type with excellent proportions, overline and hind angulation. He
should show more willingness. Apart from these two dogs, I liked SG5
Belisar v. Aurelius, SG7 Bruno du val d Anzin, SG20 Elmo Huhnegrab and
SG27 Faxo v. Fichtenschlag who impressed me with his absolute correct
proportions. For me, he should have been in the top 10.
In
this class of 2007, Indian V4 Justin zum Kolbenguss produced SG30
Orlando v. Arkanum. In this class, Vegas haut Mansards 14 children were
present. Their ratings were SG-5, 18, 22, 23, 39, 46, 48. Quen Loherweg
presented 13 children and their ratings were SG- 2, 24, 29, 32, 70, 95,
98, 115. Zamp Thermodos presented 8 children and their ratings were SG-
4, 20, 21, 50, 75. Yanox Bad-Boll presented 6 children and their ratings
were SG-12, 15, 26, 35.
