Japanese Chin
Note: If you have this breed, or know anyone who does, please send a good profile photograph of the Dog (without humans in the background). We shall publish it on this page with credits. You can send it either by e-mail or post.
This is a breed very similar to the Pekingese and probably evolved from
the Tibetan Spaniel. In the 1600's Portuguese sailors presented some Chins to Princess
Catherine of Brangaza. Queen Victoria acquired a pair when American Commodore Peri and his
warships visited Japan. Some of the dogs suffer from breathing problems but the Chin is a
robust and independent dog. As in Japan these dogs where once owned by the nobility. They
maybe black/white or red/ white. They weigh 2-5 kgs and are about 25 cms in height. Picture of Japanese Chin: Courtesy Barbro Stensson, LINBACKEN - Japanese Chin & Shih Tzu, Sweden. email : linbackens@hotmail.com |
