Ibizan hound
Note: If you have this breed, or know
anyone who does, please send a good profile photograph of the Dog (without humans in the
background). We shall publish it on this page with credits. You can send it either by
e-mail or post.
Named after Ibeza, one of the Balearic Islands, the breed spread to Spain
long ago and was used as a Gun Dog. Its strong lean thighs are well suited to bursts of
speed and its long ears funnel the sounds to assist in hunting. Its flesh coloured nose
lightens in colour when the dog is unwell. These hounds maybe white, fawn, red or a
combination of these colours. They weigh 19-25 kgs and are about 56-74 cms in height. |
