The Dandie Dinmont Terrier originates from the Borders of England and
Scotland. There are two colours, mustard and pepper. The Dandie is long, flexible and low
to the ground. He is made up of curves, has large, intelligent, dark eyes and a profuse
topknot. His coat should be pencilled and feel crisp to the touch. He is intelligent,
stubborn, and lovable. Bred originally to 'go to ground' he still has the instinct to hunt
but is now mainly a companion dog. Ideal weight 18 - 24lbs, height 8-11 inches at the
shoulder.
The Dandie is a happy, healthy little dog, but eye testing is recommended as there is an
incidence of Glaucoma in the breed. Given the Dandie's long body, back problems can occur
- though he is generally strong and flexible.
