Also known as the Belgian Sheep Dog, the name is pronounced as "Groan-en-dale". It has a shaggy black coat and is noted for its intelligence and working ability. In Belgium however, the sheepdogs are classified as four different breeds, The Groenendael, Malinois, Tervueren, and the Laekenois. The Belgian breeder Nicholas Rose, was the one who developed the Groenendael. It weighs about 28 kgs and is about 55-65 cms in height.
